OWC today announced that it is now offering up to 3.0GB of expansion memory for Apple's latest Mac mini Core 2 Duo models. This represents a 50% increase over the 2.0GB maximum factory-installed option. According to the company, "Mac mini users will appreciate the real performance gains possible when taking their memory to this new max."
The company also noted that a 4.0GB (2GB x 2 Pair) configuration was tested in the new Mac minis. "Although the Core 2 Duo Mac mini is limited to 3.0GB addressed, the 4GB Set (2GB x 2 Pair) does appear to enable 128 Bit addressing. While there does seem to be a small performance benefit gained with the 4.0GB vs. 3.0GB config, we'd recommend sticking with 3.0GBs max (in Core 2 Duos) unless you absolutely are seeking every last trickle of performance boost possible." You can view all of the test results here.
OWC Memory is fully backed by a Lifetime Advance Replacement Warranty and 30-Day Money Back Guarantee. Pricing has been set at $179.99 for the 3.0GB Kit (1GB + 2GB Module Set). Consumers can also get trade-in rebates of $20 ($10 per module) for the standard 1GB (512MB x 2) base factory memory.
