Apple's Mac Mini: Half the server at a quarter of the price
Thursday February 3, 2005
Macminicolo.net and Tenon Intersystems said on Thursday that tests they performed on a low-end Mac Mini validated their claim that it was a suitable Web server platform for 80 percent of the Web sites on the market.
According to their tests, a 1.25 Ghz Mac mini topped out at 1239 hits per second, yielding 2502 Kbytes per second of data served. Being able to handle more than 1000 hits per second and yielding 20MB of data makes Mac mini a competitively-priced Web server that "meets or beats much of the industry," the companies say.
The Mac Mini was a stock release from Apple equipped with an extra 256 MB of memory.
