Mac mini with iTrip
Monday January 30, 2006 10:44 AM EST
ZapWizard has posted a Flickr set of his Mac mini carputer. One of the things that really caught our eye was how he integrated a Griffin iTrip into his Mac mini for playing audio over his car stereo. "I choose to wire it to +5volts from the USB, as I couldn't find a reliable source of 3.3volts. A dummy headphone jack allows the iTrip to turn on. Later when I replace my headunit I can just jack into the headphone jack and get straight audio," writes ZapWizard.
He also made a custom DVI to VGA adapter, so the Mac mini would fit into the center console. "The Mac Mini may be small, but with a DVI to VGA adapter, and a VGA connector onto that it can get pretty long in the back. In order to fit the mini into the car I had to make my own right-angle DVI to VGA adapter. I did this by pinning out, taking apart, and re-wiring an existing DVI to VGA adapter," writes ZapWizard.
You definitely need to go check out the rest of his pictures. It looks like ZapWizard has some mad soldering skills.
