iPhone 4S Review Roundup

Reviews of the iPhone 4S have been coming out for the last few days now. So, we decided to put together another roundup of the best reviews out there. Most of the reviews have been extremely favorable too, taking note of the improved performance, better camera, iOS 5, iCloud and Siri. As you will see, it's definitely one phone to be reckoned with.

AllThingsD - "The iPhone 4S is one of Apple's less dramatic updates, but, when combined with the Siri, iOS 5 and iCloud features, it presents an attractive new offering to smartphone users. Some may be content to skip the new hardware and just enjoy the software and cloud features with older models. But those buying the phone will likely be happy with it," writes Walt Mossberg.

This Is My Next "If you're an owner of an older iPhone, or someone looking to switch to an iPhone from a different platform, there's never been a better Apple device to buy. The iPhone 4S is an astoundingly good phone. Between the hardware (both inside and out) and the software (iOS 5 as well as third party offerings), it's just kind of an awesome package. The lack of LTE, a larger display, or a new design may put off some buyers, but that won't change the fact that the 4S is a force to be reckoned with," writes Joshua Topolsky.

Engadget "The iPhone 4S does everything better than the iPhone 4, but it simply doesn't do anything substantially different," writes Tim Stevens.

Macworld - "In the end, the iPhone 4S follows Apple's recent trajectory of iPhone releases: It's an object of some appeal to people who last upgraded their phones a year ago, and over the next year a great many of them will find it worthwhile to upgrade to the iPhone 4S. But to all those people who've been hanging on to their iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS, the wait is over: It's time to upgrade without any hesitation whatsoever. The iPhone 4S has speed, a great camera, some cool voice-recognition features, and the same beautiful industrial design that was introduced in the iPhone 4. It's destined to be immensely popular. The S, in this case, seems to stand for sure thing," writes Jason Snell.

Daring Fireball "The iPhone 4 was my favorite product that Apple has ever made. The iPhone 4S has all the best features of the iPhone 4 - same look, same feel, same Retina Display - and adds several significant improvements. The one and only disappointment I have with the iPhone 4S is that the shutdown spinner animation is still low-res. That's pretty low on the list of nits to pick," writes John Gruber.

TechCrunch "Apple focused on the other thing they do best: refining already great products to make them better. The iPhone 4 was a great product. The best smartphone ever made. Now it cedes that title to the iPhone 4S," writes MG Siegler.

CNET "The iPhone 4S isn't the king of cell phones, but it's part of the royal family nonetheless. Even without 4G and a giant screen, this phone's smart(ass) voice assistant, Siri, the benefits of iOS 5, and its spectacular camera make it a top choice for anyone ready to upgrade," writes Kent German.

New York Times "Android phones seem to come out every Tuesday at 3:45 p.m. Apple updates iOS and the iPhone only once a year. So Apple had a lot of catching up to do, even some leapfrogging. There are some rough spots here and there; for example, every now and then the 4S's camera app gets stuck on its startup screen. And while the battery still gets you through one full day, standby time is shorter than before (200 hours versus 300). But over all, Apple has done an excellent job," writes David Pogue.

USA Today - "For a week now, I've been testing the AT&T version of the iPhone 4S in and near New York City and San Francisco. Sprint joins Verizon Wireless as the other U.S. carriers who on Friday will start delivering the device. And Apple takes the finest smartphone on the market to even loftier heights," writes Edward Baig.

Wired "For people who own an older iPhone, such as the 3GS, or for those looking to dump a creaky Android phone, the decision is obvious: The iPhone 4S will be a big jump in performance, camera quality and call clarity, and Siri will be a fat bonus," writes Brian Chen.
