Michael S's Mac mini setup
|
Vectornomicon is an all purpose media center; it functions as an arcade game, a jukebox, internet kiosk and a media center. The case is homemade, on lockable rollers, and uses an arcade monitor (which makes dvds look great). Hidden in the case is a s-video adapter, a split audio out and 20' of cord for attaching to big screens and projectors. Oh. you can also rest a drink on it, which was the main reason for making it.
Inside:
- first generation Mac mini
- 250 gig HD in a NewerTech case (they make great cases)
- Wells Gardener Arcade Monitor
- Custom built arcade controls
- Working coin box
MAME and a wide variety of emulators (most from www.bannister.org - thanks Richard!) External USB hub for game controllers (The blue gizmo) Wireless Keyboard.

Very cool! Is there another set of controls on the other side?
|
|
|
|
Yes, two control panels - one has a pair of trigger sticks and a couple of buttons, the other side has a 4way/8way joystick, 6 buttons and a trackball. No spinner though - not enough room.

Laurion: Under $500, not including the mac. Well under, if you get the coinbox from ebay. Arcade parts & Interface: Ultimarc.com, Happcontrols.com, and eBay. Wiring from Radio shack, hardware from Home depot. Plans? It's just a box! No plans!
