Kurt M's Mac mini setup
|
2.4 GHZ Mac Mini (2 GB Ram). Microsoft Wireless Keyboard and Mouse (it matches the kitchen black and SS). Bose Speakers (Base speaker is on top shelf, speakers are mountedbehind monitor). Video Ipod is on the same shelf. The digital camera and video camera use firewire and USB and the cables just sit on the shelf no need for a card reader here! In the basement we have a networked hard drive to hold our pictures, video and music. View Sonic Monitor with swivel arm vp171s fits perfect.
When we built the house the builder thought I was crazy to ask for a phone in the cabinet (cat 5 runs in the house) and couldn't wrap his head around the reason why I wanted electric outlet inside the cabinet. When you close the doors... now you can see why ;)
The Mac Mini is great! we have a guest account where anyone can go online... this Mac runs 24x7 unless we have a power outage. We shop online with peapod and cook with recipes we find online.

Good job! I hope my wife doesn't see this or I'll have another summer project on my hands.

I fancy these Mac mini in a kitchen installations. I like how you have the LCD mounted, but I wouldn't be hiding those Bose speakers. Will the LCD swing over to the other side? I notice you have some nice stools over there.

The LCD mount does swing over to the stools Only the base speaker is in the cabinet, if you look in the photo on the right you can see part of the left tweeter attached behind monitor about an inch down. Bose has a plastic attachment with velcro however after about the 20th swing the speakers wouldn't stay. I mounted them just behind the monitor with a simple L bracket from the hardware store.

Great job. Have you tried the subwoofer in a bottom cabinet? Or is the bass OK up there?

Thanks! If you crank up the volume loud you will get some vibration from the doors, I have added a few foam spacers to try to keep the door from shaking. For the kitchen it's fine because we use it more for background music we can talk over. The nice thing about the bose speakers is the control pod that allows you to mute, adjust the volume and plug headphones in so others don't have to listen to your choice of music while your at the computer.

Did the mouse/keyboard worked with the mini right out of the box or did you have to configure something first with wired mouse/keyboard connected to the mini
