Oldskoolboarder Mac mini setup update
|
Mac Mini: 1.4 Ghz, 80 GB, Airport/bluetooth and SuperDrive. Networked via Fast Ethernet (airport has trouble in the rack). Connected to AVR via USB. Sounds great, even better w/ the tube amp.
NewerTech miniStack hard drive enclosure (underneath Mac Mini): Uses 250 GB Seagate HD. Has built in USB and firewire hubs. Connected via firewire to Mac Mini.
BTC 9116 Keyboard - Mini Wireless Gaming Keyboard. It's a wireless keyboard w/ built in joystick to use as a mouse. Pressing the stick down acts as the main button press, pretty cool. Makes it easy to sit on the couch and surf and setup iTunes.
Plasma: Panasonic 42" TH42PWD6UY with DVI blade installed. This is an EDTV so all inputs are downconverted to 480p. Regardless, HD is FANTASTIC.
A/V Receiver (AVR): Pioneer Elite 45TX
VCR: Proscan (RCA) connected via composite to AVR
Satellite/DVR: HD DirecTivo upgraded w/ Weakknees 300GB. 550GB total for up to 70 hours of HD or 470 SD. This box is the shiznit. It's connected via DVI to the plasma.
DVD: Denon 2200 DVD/SACD/DVDA player connected via digital coax, 2 channel analog, and 6 channel analog, to the AVR and component video to plasma
Game console: Gamecube via component to plasma, 2 channel audio (Nintendo doesn't have digital audio...) to the AVR. Has ethernet broadband adapter (online gameplay) and Wavebird wireless controller.
Turntable: Newly acquired (used) Pro-Ject Debut III Turntable w/ "iPod" white plinth. Sophia Baby Tube Amp (top left next to center
channel): Used for 2 channel analog audio. I use the AVR as a pre-amp and the Sophia as a power amp to the 2 front speakers.
Tao XM2go: Portable XM radio w/ home docking kit. Connected via 2 channel to AVR.
iPod: 20 GB 4th Gen w/ iSkin
Universal remote: Harmony 688
Speakers: Axiom M22's, VP150, QS8's.
Speaker stands: Axiom FMS16
Sub: Hsu VTF2
Cables: Mix of Dayton (Partsexpress.com) and Bluejeanscable.com
AV Stand: Salamander twin.

I found it on ebay. Not sure where else, since it's Taiwan brand.

You killed it with "Pro-Ject Debut III Turntable w/ "iPod" white plinth" - ugh, don't Apple-ize good audiophile level equip.

Sweet turn-table. Why are you running OSX in picture-in-picture?

Thanks. The PIP is part of the plasmas multiple inputs. My mini doesn't have an video input, wish it did...

Very nice. How is your screen res though? Considering buying a mini for my Sony Wega 55" LCD HDTV and Apple tells me the screen res would really really suck because the graphics card couldn't run that TV. What do you think?
