Meherally's Mac mini setup
|
- 1.66 Intel Mac mini for media center, 2GB RAM, Parallels for Windows XP.
- Maxtor 500GB external drive, (mac mini HD casing would have been good but could not get one with 500 GB)
- Miglia TVmax.
- 23" Apple Cinema Display
- Bose companion 5 speakers (you gotta hear it to believe it)
- BT keyboard, Wireless mighty mouse
- Powerbook 15" PPC for work
- Macbook 1.83GHz Intel core duo (wife's, not mine)
- Airport Express (not shown) with Bose powermate speakers and HP PSC Aio in Lounge
Used cable tray channels cut at an angle to allow screw fix under Ikea CD rack. The angled cut also allows access to buttons at the rear. The gap allows sliding out with cables attached. iSight camera fixed on vaccum hose holder (perfect fit) with fridge magnet taped to it to stand on the ACD. The curve allows iSight camera to be slid up or down to adjust angle, The 'wings' at front end are flexible and provides firm grip. Avoided sticky holders. All cables to TV max pre-connected and can be pulled down to connect camera/VCR. Power bricks fixed on wall behind ACD with '3M dual lock' tapes. Cabling inside flexible pipe.

How is Parallels is it better than BootCamp

skyline, Thank you for your comments. Yes, the bose companion 5 are AWESOME. Yes, I came to know of the upcoming new ACD with integrated iSight just after I bought this one. Parallels is way better than bootcamp. I used bootcamp, then switched over. In the coherence mode parallels is really parallel. You switch between OSs like switching windows and the hardware support is better too.

I like your setup a lot. A suggestion for the iSight is to spray paint the vaccum hose holder a dark brown, silver, or white to match the rest of your setup. And while your at it, you could spray paint the cable trays to match, too.

Hi Ranger, thank you for your comment. Thanks for the great suggestion. Think will paint it all white as a counter point to the silver of iSight mini and tv max. or maybe the trays should be brown to match the CD rack and the holder could be white. Thanks for the idea.

How do you like your Miglia TVmax? I was thinking of getting one myself. Also, I really like those speakers. I was going to get the Companion 3s.

Hi Leezak, TVmax is great. It does not load the mini's CPU and works fine. I upgraded memory for parallels. The bundled software eyeTv is good too. I converted a lot of VHS tapes easily. If you are going for a Bose companion, go for the companion 5. The sound is great and it deliveres virtual surround very very well. Some Live TV channels have surround and bose 5 picks it right up and delivers awesome Live TV veiwing experience too. Note that it will only deliver 5.1like sound if the media contains it. You could be in the get-driven-out-of-neighborhood volume without feeling it.
