Himey's Mac mini setup
|
Equipment:
MacMini 1.83 Core 2 Duo / 4GB Kingston RAM / Internal 250GB HDD / Internal Pioneer DVD-RW / Ministack V3 with WD 1TB AV HDD
Panasonic 50" Plasma
NAD T175 / M25 / M55
Dynaudio Contour S3.4 / Focus 200C / Audience 42W / SUB500
Playstation 3 (Blu-Rays)
Assorted other gear includes DVD/HDD Recorders, DVD Players, Games Consoles, a Logitech DiNovo Mini and Apple wireless mouse, etc
There is approximately 2 weeks of audio and video content on the Mini. All audio is encoded in Apple Lossless Audio Compression (no MP3s) and is outputted to the NAD gear for decoding via TOSlink (optical cable). The mini is always on (usually asleep) and woken up via IR. Front Row is set to open on bootup. Apple's combination of ALAC with Front Row makes for a visually appealing and easy way to navigate audio and video files. With a full library of cover art, it both looks and sounds great. All codecs to play and ouptput AVI, Dolby Digital, etc have been added. I've also played with competing 'Front-Row-type' programs. In my opinion, Front Row remains the slickest and easiest of the lot.

...Easily the best audio system I've seen on this board and some KNOB gives me one star.

Nice setup! I gave you 4 stars, but only because the screen is off and you didn't list a description.

HA, cheers mate... writing one now - I submitted two pics - one with the screen on and a pretty 1080 background but the moderator chose this one.

Thanks mate... it's a bit of a temporary room... filing cabinets, etc in there at the moment... Once re-arranged + projector it should look and sound better

Hey, does your Mac Mini read all 4GB of the RAM? I thought that the 1.83 MHZ core 2 Duo could only read a max of 3GB of RAM, what can you tell me? Also, have you tried Boxee? I use it instead of Front Row (the remote even works with it) and it rocks!

No, only 3GB is available for use. I tried a few programmes but cannot remember if Boxee was one of them... I like the simplicity of Front Row & now that I have imported many of my vids to iTunes (apparently Boxeee cannot read iTunes movies) it's not really an option. ... I installed 4GB of RAM due to the performance benefits of paired memory with shared video as found in the Minis.
