I like stand but I think it defeats the purpose of using a mini over an iMac. The advantage being you can place the actual machine away from the place where you will be using it. This greatly reduces the hum of the fans and disk in your face..

I don't find the fans loud at all. I'd love to get an iMac, but am a measly college student with little money. Its easier to upgrade the mini over time rather than drop 1.5K at once.

BenQ has a 4:3 display made specially for the mini but I never saw single setup using it. That stand is nice but since you're using external HD, wouldn't it be great if you get enclosure that match the mini that also has usb hub?
