Oldskoolboarder's Mac mini setup
|
Mac Mini: 1.4 Ghz, 80 GB, Airport/bluetooth and SuperDrive. Ministack on order. Networked via Fast Ethernet (airport has trouble in the rack). Connected to AVR via USB. Sounds great, I'm surprised. Even better w/ the tube amp.
Plasma: Panasonic 42" TH42PWD6UY with DVI blade installed. This is EDTV so all inputs are downconverted to 480p. Regardless, HD is FANTASTIC.
A/V Receiver (AVR): Pioneer Elite 45TX
VCR: Proscan (RCA) connected via composite to AVR
Satellite/DVR: HD DirecTivo upgraded w/ Weakknees 300GB. 550GB total for up to 70 hours of HD or 470 SD. This box is the shiznit. It's connected via DVI to the plasma.
DVD: Denon 2200 DVD/SACD/DVDA player connected via digital coax, 2 channel analog, and 6 channel analog, to the AVR and component video to plasma
Game console: Gamecube via component to plasma, 2 channel audio (Nintendo doesn't have digital audio...) to the AVR. Also, also has ethernet broadband adapter.
Turntable: Vintage Pioneer PL117D using Ortofon OM10 cartridge. Probably the best sounding part of the system, total cost is $75.
Sophia Baby Tube Amp: Used for 2 channel analog audio. I use the AVR as a pre-amp and the Sophia as a power amp to the 2 front speakers.
iPod: 20 GB 4th Gen w/ iSkin
Speakers: Axiom M22's, VP150, QS8's.
Speaker stands: Axiom FMS16
Sub: Hsu VTF2
Cables: Mix of Dayton (Partsexpress.com) and Bluejeanscable.com
AV Stand: Salamander twin.
Oh, and the keyboard, BTC 9116 Keyboard - Mini Wireless Gaming Keyboard. It's a wireless keyboard w/ built in joystick to use as a mouse. Pressing the stick down acts as the main button press, pretty cool. Makes it easy to sit on the couch and surf and setup iTunes.
I had an older Versapoint RF keyboard w/ built in fingerpad but it was hard to use it one handed, especially when I'm holding my infant.

800x600 rez?

nice setup, did you have any trouble with the DVI input? what resolution are you running?
|
|
|

Thanks. Actually, Mini is running via VGA in 800 x 480. My only DVI input is used by HD Tivo and I'm too cheap at this point to get DVI switcher. DVI is slightly better, but not $250 better. I'd rather spend the $$ on an external HD. When watching HD on Tivo, I use 720p.

" Scrumtralescent..." HA! Gonna have to use that one. Max (usable) def is 848x600 via VGA. It gets better via DVI but no more available inputs.
