Matrox Graphics today announced the DualHead2Go Digital Edition, the next version to the acclaimed DualHead2Go, now featuring digital outputs. This external multi-display upgrade device connects to the VGA output of compatible notebook or desktop computers and through patent-pending technology uniquely expands the desktop across two digital displays. DualHead2Go Digital Edition also enables support for high-resolution panels, offering a stretched desktop of up to 3840x1200 (or dual 1920x1200) across two displays. The DualHead2Go Digital Edition has a suggested retail price of $229.

From what I've seen on the product page, it takes a VGA input and splits it into two DVI outputs? Confused

I guess it converts the signal. Confused

Why wouldn't they just go with DVI the whole way around?

It does convert the signal. I guess this was to be an upgrade for all those VGA only computers who want to use two displays. Though for Mac users it would have been nice if it was DVI all around.

I don't quite get that VGA thing either. Why not run DVI all the way? There must be a technical reason, but its beyond me.

2x 1280 x 1024 is effectively the max resolution. Any higher res and you gotta go < 70Hz

Anything under 70Hz makes my eyes bleed.
