Equinux has released MediaCentral 2.5, the latest version of its media center solution for the Mac. According to the company, "MediaCentral 2.5, expands its feature set within the DVD module. This content menu elegantly fades in over the screen while watching a movie. All of MediaCentral's features benefit from a variety of performance enhancements integrated into this latest release. The speed of navigating through large DVD libraries has been greatly improved." The MediaCentral 2.5 update is free to all MediaCentral 2.x users. For new users the cost is $29.95.
Version 2.5.0 Features:
- New: Support for Dolby Digital Surround-Sound (AC-3)
- New: An options menu has been added to the DVD menu for added convenience
- Navigation speed in DVD libraries has been improved dramatically
- The stability of QuickTime playback has been improved
- Auto-tuning for DVB-T/DTT is more stable in situations with low reception quality

I forget, isn't this the one with the 15-minute preview?
Hmmm.. I might finally be interested in this. I'm FINALLY getting a new TV, after months of paying out-of-the-blue bills (car breakdowns). _________________

The demo is a stinker, but don't let that hold you back from giving it a try. _________________ 1.42GHz Mac mini

Good news - 2.5 works great. Dolby Digital 5.1 is finally available.
Flaws: the new DVD options menu is not that elegant as equinux claims and one of the features did not work: pressing "c" on the keyboard should switch between 16:9 and a new "zoom" mode. The later would be very helpful in viewing older 4:3 letterboxed DVDs on a large 16:9 screen. However, it did not have any effect on my MacMini setup. |

| Would somebody recommend a decent area mic for this product. The skype feature intrigues me but what can work from underneath a tv set to a range of 4metres? |

I've read some good things about the Blue Snowball mic, but I don't know what kind of quality you'll get at 4 meters. The iSight's mic ain't shabby either. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

| Can anyone confirm if the MediaCentral v2.6.1 works with Freecom USB stick? I tried using the demo version but it always hang when trying to scan for channels. Am at a loss since there aren't any mac version s/w that will support the Freecom. |
