Hey Guys,

Just posting a little note in case not everyone has been following the MacHeist they release their bundle today...not a bad deal for $49 and 25% goes to charity...they are also allowing you to gift some of the apps if you've already purchased the software before...

Yeah I looked at it also. It is a pretty good deal. Too bad I have the programs I already would want out of that bundle.

Bah, too bad I didn't do all the heists, as I'd totally be down for it at $40.

Delicious Library and TextMate are the two that are really interesting to me, but I think I'm going to have to pass. It's just too close to xmas, and my finances are tighter right now until the next term starts.

Good concept, decent apps (if you need them) and some of the money goes to charity. Pretty sweet!

On the other hand:

http://daringfireball.net/2006/12/iniquities_of_the_selfish

If you truly want to support a charity AND a Mac developer, write a check to your favorite charity and pay full price directly to the developer for the shareware of your choice.

I think the MacHeist people are getting far too big a piece of the pie. It's a classic case of "how to do well, by doing good."

Confused

Yeah that is true. They really shouldn't be getting much for just coming up with the idea and putting it together. While it does spur sales of software and promote charity, you are still right about your advice.

The only problem I have with DF's article is that it's all based on assumed numbers. He's only working off a small set of known dollar amounts.

With that said however, I would like the MacHeist people to lay it out, and explore exactly who's getting what dollar amount, so I can decide if my money is well spent towards it.

Exactly. As it stands, it's too much of a black hole for me.

Smile
