I guess it's gonna be GMA950 for the Core 2 Duo Mac mini update too. | You're going to have to wait until the next mobile platform, Santa Rosa. That platform comes out April of 2007. It has the new GPU, plus a improved FSB and built-in support for 802.11n, among other things. | devo wrote: | | It's also good to see Apple making 1GB of RAM standard in more Macs. 512MB just isn't sufficient anymore. | I definitely agree to that! That is something I've been saying for a while. Even back when there were PowerMacs still coming with 512MB standard.
I do think they have added value to the black MacBook now. It is only a $50 premium over the closer white MacBook. That is if you upgrade the hard drive to 120GB like the black unit. _________________

In my opinion, not until about a month after Macworld.

I think it is really good that Apple added something more for ordering the black MacBooks. They just didn't seem worth it with the Core Duos. _________________ The direct use of force is such a poor solution to any problem, it is generally employed only by small children and large nations.

Now with the upgraded RAM and hard drive, it really is only $50 more than a comparable white MacBook. I say that is much better than before. I've been waiting for a better black MacBook for a while. I've been going back and forth about getting a notebook. I can't do the white MacBook, because it would become too dirty too quick. _________________

True and they also contribute more heat. Unfortunately the 2.5" 7200 drives run much hotter than a 5400. |

Depends on the drive, that isn't always true. And one more reason why I am happy with the iMac, using 3.5" drives that run cooler than laptop drives. _________________ | Mac mini 2011 | Apple Thunderbolt Display | Apple keyboard and Magic TrackPad | 2Tb Time Capsule | Apple TV (3) | iPhone 4s |

| Well, I took delivery of my new 1.83 mini with 2 GB RAM last night and I have to say it's pretty nice. Certainly seems faster than my G4 mini although I haven't had a chance to play with many apps that will require Rosetta . . . I will assume that aside from Adobe apps, etc. I won't be too disappointed. Certainly universal apps fly. As for the Core 2 Duo, I suppose when Leopard is released the 64 bit chip would make a difference, but I'm hard pressed to believe that an average mini user would ever even NEED that kind of performance. And at less than $1000, I'll upgrade again when the time is right. |

Give me an instance when it isn't true ?
Which 7200 RPM drive has lower thermal specs than a 5400 ? |

|

Assuming that Leopard is 150$CAD and iLife '07 is 90$CAD (same prices as Tiger and iLife '06), that means the software is worth 240$CAD.
The entry model of the Mac mini is 679$CAD, which means the software alone is worth 35% of the cost of a Mac mini. So I'm not buying a new Mac mini until I either really need a speed increase and/or it comes with Leopard + iLife '07.
But on top of that, since it's now the only Mac without a Core 2 Duo, that means I'm only upgrading once Mac mini is Core 2 Duo + Leopard + iLife '07. |

Expect for the glossy screen (which smudges very easily), I was able to keep my white MacBook clean. But I must admit that I had my doubts about it looking this good in a year. I don't think the MacBooks are as rugged as the old iBooks. My friend's iBook is two years old and it still looks new. This is one of the many reasons why I am in the process of upgrading to the MBP. The biggest reason still being that glossy screen. |

They want to distinguish between MacBook and MacBook Pro. Pro gets you the graphics and they want to keep it that way, for now. Though they can't do that forever. _________________
