I've invested a lot of effort in getting the whole DVI/snow issue resolved by Apple or ATI over the months.
Today I received some encouraging conversation from an executive assistant speaking on behalf of "SJ".
Support and Engineering are now definitely aware of the problem.
I believe the issue will be easily reproducable.
Hopefully Apple will now work to fix the defect. |

| I really don't want to jinx things... I don't want to get in to how... but yes, "SJ". |

FYI, the snow issue still is not fixed in Tiger I tried it last night and had to use SwitchResX in order to get 57hz frequency back. After that, it worked fine. |

View the Apple/Support Discussion thread on Mac mini monitors "Running Tally of DVI issue".
Basically, the snow appears horizontally when DVD, screensaver, and in some small degree, regular desktop display. It is very evident when running in higher resolutions with a black background.
It doesn't affect every monitor however. Spending $1300 on my monitor though, I expect it to work.
ATI released a patch to the firmware pushing the 9200 series card from 116 to version 124, thus fixing a similar type issue that was found.
Apple's OEM version cannot be upgraded with a patch from ATI, unless Apple pays for the upgrade. Regardless, the firmware in the mini is a 116 version. |

Thanx,
Resolutions over 1280? I wish ATI would lighten up with Apple because sometimes you have to do right by the customer. |

I'm using Dell 20" FP and it looks fine.
How do I change my Terminal background to black so I can move the window around to see if it's OK? |

If you don't see a problem during a screensaver or DVD playback, then you're fine. Some types of monitors are affected, others are okay.
The issue is very apparent when you see it. |

Terminal>Window settings>color then background settings. |

I guess I'm lucked out!
Anyway should I update the ATI Displays 4.5 eventhough it does not have VersaVision support for the Mac mini?
Does Tiger fixes it? |
