Inspired by the latested Jobs keynote at the recent developers' conference, I have decided to bone up on Objective-C and to dig into the Cocoa API. I don't really have any specific applications in mind yet...but I definitely want to develop some useful tools (even if they only end up being useful for ME). 
So far, I've stumbled upon these tutorials at MacDevCenter and have purchased these two books: Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X and Programming in Objective-C. And also have my eye on Core Mac OS X and UNIX Programming.
Anyone have any other suggestions???

I registered with ADC after the announced availability of xcode tools 2.1 because I wanted to download it. Membership is free and there are some good resources there. I haven't spent the time to really explore the ADC website yet. I too am interested in coding on the Mac and would like to find some good tutorials for getting started with cocoa and xtools.

I wouldn't mind having one of those $999 Intel Towers to plan around with for a few weeks.

I did join the ADC and downloaded the latest XCode tools. I've been waiting for the two books I've ordered and been reading the tutorials on MacDevCenter.
Sounds like there is some decent interest in application development here. If only we had a dedicated forum for this topic! 
I have some background in C and Java, but am far from a seasoned programmer. (most of my "coding" has been Perl, Python, and some PHP) I am very excited about the Cocoa API though and think that this could be a lot of fun!

Since you can create the universal binaries on either platform, me thinks the existance of the Intel Towers is mainly to give the developer a "warm fuzzy" that their apps truly will run on upcoming new architecture.
Anyway, once I heard that you have to give them back...I decided I didn't want one.
If I really get into Carbon development, I'll buy the new Intel-equivalent PowerMac tower once they are readily available.

Nice find. This article pretty much validates the two books I purchased and the basic learning timeline and plan I have set up for myself.
