So while i was trying to get windows xp to reinstall on my recently broken pc I plugged my laptop into my flatscreen to see how the vga would work (in prep for the mini which should come before the weekend)

It came up fine with the correct resolution but the position was offset to the right by a few hundred pixels. Big black bar on the right side. This also happened on my PC I was able to use nvidias controls to push the position of the screen over and into place. Im guessing since it happened twice it will happen a third time with the mini.

I did not see anything in apples controls to adjust screen position...do you know if switchresx will make this easy (cant find this in their docs)

Yes, SwitchRes X makes this easy. When you click on the custom tab and click on the "+" to start a new timing, it will be filled in with the current timing being used and on the right hand side of the Timing Parameters window will be the Quick Change area where you can simply click on arrows to make minor adjustments for things like centering.

Awesome thank you!

Although its not really minor, I estimate a couple hundred pixels!

I have to ask - you say it's offset to the right by several hundred pixels, then you say it has a black bar on the right, too. That sounds pretty similar to a 4:3 image centered on the screen! But, you also say it knows the native resolution...
