Apple Releases iTunes 7.0.1
Wednesday, September 27, 2006
Apple has released iTunes 7.0.1 via Mac OS X's Software Update Utility and on the Web. According to company, "With iTunes 7 and the new iTunes Store, preview and purchase high-quality hit movies plus new and classic games designed exclusively for the Fifth Generation iPod. Flip through your collection by album cover with Cover Flow, protect your iTunes library by backing up to CDs or DVDs, and much more. iTunes 7.0.1 addresses stability and performance issues with Cover Flow, CD importing, iPod syncing, and more." The update requires Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later, or Windows 2000/XP.

I'm still having some issues with certain artwork showing up in the Cover Flow view. I know the artwork is there because it shows up in other views and on my iPod nano. I wonder if the artwork needs to be a certain size? |

I installed the update and all seems to work fine, although my poor G4 mini still won't show anything under Cover Flow, but it's obviously just too much for the graphics in this machine.
No worries . . . Intel Mini purchase coming up in October. |

7.0.1 seems to have fixed the memory usage issues I was having with 7. Cover Flow seems to be working fine. I really don't notice any difference in the speed of flipping through albums or having them show up. I guess there were issues with importing but I haven't had the chance to rip a CD yet in 7. All my music is ripped and rocking! |

Same here, has been trouble free, but it did drop memory usage. _________________ | Mac mini 2011 | Apple Thunderbolt Display | Apple keyboard and Magic TrackPad | 2Tb Time Capsule | Apple TV (3) | iPhone 4s |

You have a G4 mini and Cover Flow works for you? I can't imagine what my problem is then. I can see it if I set my monitor to thousands of colors but at millions of colors my 20" ACD refuses to show me anything on that view. The other views are fine.
You must have a smaller monitor or something else is amiss. |

I'm using a G4 Mini (1.25Ghz, 1GB ram) with a 20" LCD Monitor at 1680x1050 (using VGA connector), and have had no problems with cover flow. The first time I used iTunes 7 it did take several minutes for all of the covers to download, and I had to flip through the covers to get some of them downloaded, but after that they all showed fine. _________________ MacBook 2.0Ghz CD (black) |

I don't know how this rates up against iTunes 7.0 (never looked), but I'm listening to a 128 kbps ACC track with Cover Flow open and this is what it shows in Activity Monitor...
Process ID: 153
CPU: 9.40%
Threads: 9
Real Memory: 74.56MB
Virtual Memory: 466.27MB
Kind: Intel |

I'm running 75ish on Ram as well, I was hovering around 100Mb before. No more opening on one bounce. Now it has to "load my library". iTunes 7 is quirky. Everyone was so hyped on the new products Apple released that day that everyone (myself included) jumped on the update like flies on sh*t. _________________ MacMini 2.0GHz C2D (2009)

mine still stutters like a mofo, and very very little cover art is showing up
it still thinks 2 or more artists on the same album are more than one album
i'm on a PC though (for now, new mini is in the mail, yeee!)
PC's running with a 3.3 ghz intel and 1.5 gigs of ram, and an overclocked FX5500 GeForce card |

The strange thing with mine is that if at ANY time I set the display prefs to thousands of colors, cover flow will load and run like "buttah" and if I set the display back to millions, it's still there although it's very obvious that cover flow ITSELF is still only thousands. Of course, I have to leave iTunes running . . . if I quit it and relaunch, I have to go through the same procedure. Very strange behavior, but next month it'll be someone else's problem. *S* |
