If Apple improve the performance of the new C2D iMac's then I may be trading up but not to a 24" - I'd rather have something with a smaller surround. _________________ iMac intel CoreDuo 17" 1Gb

i am a little torn. maybe the 24 is too big if you are sitting right next to it on a desk. the new meroms don't seem faster than the yonah for the stuff i am doing. i may wait until leopard. _________________ 24 inch core 2 duo, 2.33ghz, 2 gig ram

I think if you have an Intel Mac right now you would be crazy to upgrade before Leopard unless that PC really makes you money and the performance will increase your capacity for income. I do remote system administration from home on occasion and my mini still does the job, so I will hold out and see what gets me aroused when Leopard ships.
The way Apple stuff holds it's value this shouldn't be an issue for anyone with an even remotely recent Mac. If the next mini looks compelling I'll like get several hundred dollars for my current unit on eBay and barely have to spend my computer stash cash for it. _________________ | Mac mini 2011 | Apple Thunderbolt Display | Apple keyboard and Magic TrackPad | 2Tb Time Capsule | Apple TV (3) | iPhone 4s |

Checking eBay prices currently I can almost get what I paid for this iMac (< £100 loss) but then I did get a very good deal at the time. If Leopard ships in Jan/Feb I will have a few months of warranty left which will be useful. _________________ iMac intel CoreDuo 17" 1Gb

I tend to agree with your thinking. Wait until Leopard comes out to buy a new machine. However in the case where you are selling a model to make an upgrade you have nothing to lose. The 17" iMac will be worth about $150 less to a potential buyer when Leopard/iLife '07 is released. Therefore you have nothing to lose if you sell now. Of course you will have to buy Leopard/iLife '07 when it ships but you end up breaking even and you get to start using the 24" iMac 4+ months sooner.
In this case I recommend selling the 17" iMac now and either buy the 24" model now or until Leopard is released. You may also see a price drop come January. |

As Apple tend to have new releases of their software annually I'd definitely buy around that time if you need to, hardware changes are incremental and never cease after all.
Oh for a Mac mini tower with decent graphics and 24" monitor...
It'll probably be a 20" iMac next time around. _________________ iMac intel CoreDuo 17" 1Gb
