great thread everyone! I think the iTv demo was only half of what the product will really be. i am hoping for a pvr to be incorporated somehow. do you guys remeber that the elgato ceo was tapped to head apple germany back in october of 2005? full article here. http://news.zdnet.com/2100-1040_22-5899688.html
seems like there is a lot more up apples slleve, i wouldn't be surprised if the price for the basic units is dropped to $199 and $299+ will be for the pvr unit. |

I'm not sure Apple wants to go in the PVR business. Why would they? They are in the business of selling movies, TV shows, and music ala-cart. I like your price of $199 though. Personally, I think $299 is a bit steep for the iTV. You'd think Apple would want to price this thing as low as they can. They could almost use the video game model of selling the hardware at a loss and making their money on the backend. In this case there wouldn't be licensing fees, but rather an increase in iTMS content sales. |

The iTV is more of a concept than an actual product at this point. The idea is to allow Apple to provide the Movies/TV/Music through the iTunes music store. If everyone is using this common interface it would only seem natural that television/receiver manufacturers would want part of it.
Apple has released the idea of this product to promote movie sales online. People will feel more comfortable buying the content knowing the hardware will follow.
Don't be surprised if you see television and receiver manufacturers incorporating iTV directly into their products. Similar to automobile manufacturers incorporating iPod connectivity. Again, companies like Pioneer/Alpine incorporating iPod connectivity in their car stereos.
BTW the computer being PC or Mac is the PVR. |

Is it any wonder that its the same footprint as a MacMini? This about the possibilities, hook it up to a mini or a HD enclosure for a mini... etc etc. _________________

Supposedly it's a small hard drive--probably for caching more than storage?
