Which makes my hunger to upgrade more of a peckish feeling

Most of the improvement seems to be down to the boosted L2 cache.

I agree. I still think I'll update when Leopard ships as I'd be buying the new OS anyway and add to that the cost of Applecare for another 2 years (the iMac will be 8 months old then) which I'd put off for another year by buying new (with hopefully a reasonable resale price on this iMac) and I think I may also move to a 20" as the price has fallen about 25% here since the Intel iMacs were introduced.

Odd to think I'm pretty keen to do this as I thought I'd pick up a MacBook when Leopard shipped but if it stays CD instead of C2D then it isn't interesting.

I hope the move to a 20" is something I can appreciate as I bought a 19" monitor recently and it really didn't seem that much different to the 17" on the iMac. Obviously it was larger but didn't seem that different. Then again I had to return it as it was faulty, so perhaps that took the appreciation down a notch or two.

Both the iMac and the extended monitor 19" widescreen are/were 1440x900. 1680x1050 will be fun though.
