Blazer or adavis. Is the Minimate's noise level bad enough that you wouldn't recommend it to someone else? Is it louder than a normal PC's fan running?

slickrick: no, the Minimate is not louder, or as loud, as a PC's fan running. Remember, there is no fan in the Minimate, all the noise comes from the hard drive. It's just compared to the silence of Mac Mini (when the fan in the Mac is not running) that the Minimate is "noisey." Actually, I would consider the drive that came out of my Minimate quiet for a 7200rpm drive.

The drive in mine was a WD1600 dated 12/2003. It was loud, but made an annoying whining noise. I replaced it with a newer WD1600 and it was only a little quieter. I currently have a Maxtor 200G in there and it is quiet. You only hear it during large volume disk activity (copying mp3s etc). 500G units should be out by 3Q.
