Even though LCDs are bright... having a dark surround makes your eyes perceive brighter tones. Plus it doesn't reflect the light as much, which is helpful especially in the dark. You want to see the image, not the machine that is projecting the image (at least theater wise). _________________

In the UK store this costs $2565 ouch! |
Jay Leno might like the chin
I was hoping if they made a larger screened iMac that they could eliminate the chin. I guess the USB/Firewire ports, speakers etc. make this impossible if you want the width to remain the same. |

I think as big as a 24" LCD is. You could fit a lot of it behind the LCD. Also if they made it thicker.
But as Apple would probably have it. They left it like it is to keep the design the way it is. _________________

| I know it's sacrelidge but I actually have my entire mini system up for sale in hopes it could raise enough funds for me to leap to the 24inch imac. I'm not getting my hopes up though.. The chin on the imacs has always bugged me but i'm hoping someone makes aftermarket cases or covers of some type? |

Don't know Leno but an old football commentator here Jimmy Hill could give Concorde a run for its money.
I doubt it would be impossible but where would they put the logo if they got rid of it? _________________ iMac intel CoreDuo 17" 1Gb

Hell, make the iMacs out of aluminum like the Cinema Displays... _________________

Too much reflective area if they did that. The white is OK. My extended desktop monitor has a very thin silver fascia surround just like an ACD.
Now if only it and the iMac screens were level... _________________ iMac intel CoreDuo 17" 1Gb

| The ACD aluminum is not very reflective. It has the same reflective properties as the mini. |

| just curious, if i boot an imac24 in windows and try to run halflife2 with good settings and fullscreen would it work? maybe with the video upgrade module? That is a lot of screen to power for a higher end game, just wondering if anyone has an idea? |
