It is, however, the perfect time for an upgrade. |

I have a hard time believing Apple would put a Merom in the Mac mini before the iMac or MacBook Pro. I guess they could always go with the Conroe in the iMac, but you can bet your bottom dollar the MacBook Pro is getting a Merom. It should be interesting to see how this next transition from the Core Duo to Core 2 Duo plays out over the next few weeks. I'm looking to sell my MacBook (greatly disappointed with its build quality) once I get back home and get a MacBook Pro after they get a refresh. I would also like to get a new Mac mini down the road for HTPC purposes. _________________ 2.4GHz MacBook Pro/4GB/320GB HD

I agree, I seriously doubt that they will put Core 2 Duo in the Mac Mini - it will be a simple upgrade to say both duo 1.83 and 2.0... bringing it up to speed with the Macbook (the ibook and mac mini have always been so close together with their specs). This would mainly be due to the price drop in Yonah chips with the release of Conroe and Merom - faster chips for the same prices!
I also wonder when the iMac will get Conroe stuffed in it and the Macbook Pro get Merom.
pffft, Apple will leave the Macbook and Mini with Yonah, it serves to make the computer lines more distinct (and keep the prices down) _________________ http://zerosumone.wordpress.com

I have a feeling Apple will put the C2D in the iMac and mini at the same time. They require the least amount of changes to accommodate the new chips. The big question is whether or not Apple will ditch the GMA950 and go back to a dedicated video card. I'm not in the market to buy another mini, but like OGN said it will be interesting to see how this plays out. Apple would have to radically change the mini for me to consider upgrading.

It looks like Amazon is sold out now and hawking J&R's minis. |

I've been waiting to purchase my first mini since June. I understand the logic of not waiting for the next great thing, but I'd feel like such a dolt if I paid current price for a discounted processor. Apple doesn't have to do much for me to whip out the credit card... either a price drop (doubtful) or a processor upgrade. I'd like a C2D but even a small bump in the current CD line would be enough for me to get one. |

This makes sense. I walked into a Comp USA in Culver City, California about two weeks back and they had their brand new sealed Macmini core duos for $739. I ended up buying one since was the cheapest I've seen it sold in Los Angeles. Of course the sales guy wanted to sell me Apple care, monitor, keyboard, mouse & memory all marked up about 25% - 50% of list price at the apple store!!! I figured the mini was their "back to school sale" loss-leader. After hearing this rumor, I think they also needed to sell off some extra macmini stock before the new minis come out. I don't think I return or sell my new mini, unless it's one hell of an update, like core 2 duo & graphics update.

eh, normally I would be playing SOCOM with my buddies. But I don't feel like playing. So I'm on here and catching up on news and other tidbits.
I'm a definite night person. And I can see you are on late too. _________________

Isn't that when the quality of forecasting suddenly ramps up? _________________ iMac intel CoreDuo 17" 1Gb
