Apple Releases Security Update 2006-004
Tuesday, August 1, 2006
Apple has released Security Update 2006-004 via Mac OS X's Software Update Utility and on the Web. According to the company, Security Update 2006-004 is recommended for all users and improves the security of the following components:
- AFP Server
- Bluetooth Setup Assistant
- Bom
- DHCP
- dyld
- fetchmail
- gnuzip
- ImageIO
- LaunchServices
- OpenSSH
- telnet
- WebKit

| Well this one seems to effect most of us. I use DHCP as I'm sure most other home users do. |

Actually after reading the Apple bulletin, the DHCP fix is for a vulnerability in bootpd, which would be if you manually configured your Mac to be a bootp server. The bootp daemon is not turned on by default.
However, there are several fixes that should be of concern to anyone who surfs the web.
- ImageIO
- LaunchServices

| I had some trouble with my Logitech bluetooth mouse after the restart, but it seems to be working fine now. |

My update went smoothly. I'm always surprised with how much faster Safari feels right after these updates. Then 2-3 days later it gets to feeling a little pokey.  |

Hi Bill,
I talk to you before abou disk repair . There is verify disk permission. Do you need to run this before or after you run repair disk permission.

I just emptied my system and user caches for the first time and it's now MUCH MUCH FASTER!
I didn't know about that bit of maintenance until now. |
