No offense intended, but no. Button on the back is easy to reach on my setup but it seldom gets used.

None taken! I just thought it would be cool if Apple could somehow combine the power button, LED and IR receiver eye into one area. I was thinking about the mini being used a media center. It would be more convenient to have the power button on the front if you were keeping it inside a stereo rack or TV stand.

In addition to sleep, I think it would be cool if you could power up and shutdown with the Apple Remote. I would rather have that functionalty than a front power button. Plus, I really like minimalist look up front.

1.) Make only Core Duo minis
2.) I would like to see the Mac mini go back to having a true GPU or at least have Apple uncap the 64MB video limit. The Intel graphics could be little better than Apple has limited them to. That goes for the MacBook as well.
3.) Standard 80GB and 100GB hard drives. Preferably 7200-rpm |

1) Include enable/disable mouse pointer acceleration checkbox.
- Pointer acceleration, especially the one hardcoded in OSX, is really irritating!!! I prefer a linear pointer movement.
2) Discrete graphics chip.
3) Merom CPU. |

Anyway, I think a larger form factor defeats the purpose and most of these "power" improvements defeat the purpose of the low cost Mac. What you guys ar really asking for is a modified desktop model. Besides making the RAM more accessable and adding more multimedia features, anything else is not a Mac mini.
I think several commenters are right when they suggest keeping the under $500 model. |
Indeed. Push to get a 500$ Mac mini again and also introduce a "Mac mini Pro" at the same time. The Mac mini pro could be twice as tall, have a 3.5" drive, a real GPU with dedicated RAM and easily accessible RAM slots.
Basically, iMac specs (minus LCD) in a Mac mini case. |

There is no need for a HDMI output. As most people use LCD monitors and that connection is either VGA or DVI. You can also get a DVI-to-HDMI cable, which negates the need for HDMI.

| I wouldn't be surprised to see HDMI overtake DVI in a few years, but I think it's too early for computers. Sapphire just released the first video card with HDMI last month, but it also includes a VGA connector. I guess Apple could include a HDMI to DVI adaptor, but can you go HDMI to VGA with an adapter? |

If the primary difference between DVI and HDMI is that HDMI can carry audio as well as video. What is the real benefit of HDMI in a computer application?
Monitors only deliver stereo. That's "if" they have speakers.
Now to get 5.1+ you will have to go into a 5.1+receiver with HDMI input. It would also have to have HDMI output to carry the signal on to the monitor. Not very mini like.
If the mini was a home theatre device then this may be practical. However it is not. Apple would be better off making the media center Mac and incorporating HDMI into it. |

The Mac mini is a computer whether or not people are using it for home theatre. Initially it didn't even have 5.1 output.
Basically for the Mac mini to be a true home theatre device the entire thing should be redesigned.
large 3.5" drive
power button on front
5.1+ audio out
HDMI output
decent video card
video recording capability
video input
The mini was and still is a "computer" designed for switchers. Apple is best to keep the price of the mini as low as possible. Should Apple add components to the mini or work at keeping the price down?
If you're questioning where I am coming from, you may want to go back and watch the Quicktime videos of Steve Jobs Keynote speeches since the mini was released. When Steve Jobs was questioned as to whether Apple would be coming out with a home theatre device. Steve's reply was "We don't talk about future products, be we hear you loud and clear." He didn't say, "we already have the mac mini".
