Hey All,

Got Boot Camp up and running with xp installed on my Mac. Now when I login to OSX the xp partition is showing up as its own drive labeled "untitled." Is there any way to change the drive name/icon in OSX. I figured I could go into xp and change the drive label, but OSX won't let me change the icon. Anyone know how?

Just Googled this up:

OSx86 Project Forum wrote:
If you installed XP on a FAT32 partition it's a pretty simple change... just do it as you would any other device icon. But hopefully you didn't do that.

But if it's a NTFS drive this is what you can do:

1] Format a USB stick to FAT32. Change the Drive icon for it to the one you want your Windows drive to be.
2] In terminal, go to: /Volumes/

There will now be a file there called '._USBSTICKNAME' eg. mine says '._STICKIE'

duplicate that file, but call it '._WINDOWSXPDRIVENAME' eg. mine ways '._WinXP'

3] Boot Into Windows. On the USB stick there will be a file called '.VolumeIcon.icns'.
4] Copy that file to C:\

Done. You can change the USB Stick icon to something else now...

Will try it tomorrow.

Hey, thanks for the tip. Would you be able to elaborate on the Terminal commands some? I'm very new to OSX.

I had previously changed the C:\ volume label in Windows Explorer to Windows HD

My flash drive has a volume label of LEXAR MEDIA

I downloaded these icons to get the Windows one. It results in a folder named Boot Camp Drives. I control-clicked and selected Get Info on both the LEXAR MEDIA on the desktop and Windows IconOnly in the Boot Camp Drives folder. I copied and pasted the Windows icon from the Windows IconOnly Get Info window to the LEXAR MEDIA Get Info Window.

I used the following terminal commands:

cd /Volumes
ls -al (to see the files)
cp "._NameOfFlashDrive" "._NameOfWindowsVolume"

in my case this was:

cp "._LEXAR MEDIA" "._Windows HD"

Then go to Windows and copy the hidden .VolumeIcon.icns file on the flash drive to the root of the C: drive

When you get back to OS-X, you can Get Info on the flash drive again, click on the Windows icon and delete it to get back to the original flash drive icon.

Hey, thanks a lot for spelling that out for me. I'll give it a try when I get home this evening.
