|
|
I'm concerned with what is going to happen when Leopard is released, with regards to G4 and Intel machines. I know that Apple will not drop support for the PPC platform in Leopard, as that would mean the genocide of a lot of still-great machines, but will they release Leopard as one version? Or will there be an Intel upgrade, and a PPC upgrade? It would really suck to have to buy two copies of Leopard if I purchase an iBook.
I used to borrow a 14" iBook G4 from a friend of mine to mess around with; other than pitiful video encoding performance (Handbrake managed to take 2 hours to rip a 1 hour 45 minute video from DVD to iPod format) it was a great machine. I would only be using it for portable WiFi access, and for writing with Pages, so I can't really justify buying a portable as powerful as my desktop system (the Mini).
Any opinions/suggestions? _________________ ~Mac Mini Core Duo / 512Mb / 80Gb / Tascam US-122~

I assume you are referring to if you buy the family pack? (cuz, if you buy one copy of Leopard, it is for ONE MACHINE!)
Regardless, the off-the-shelf version of Leopard will most certainly be for both architectures. To do anything else would ridiculous. _________________ -=iMav=-

I agree...
Cuts down production/packaging costs, etc. Also, making separate versions would be silly...most folks that buy the Family Pack will probably have a mix of PowerPC and Intel Macs. _________________ MBP 2.4 C2D; 4GB

My 2p:
not to support the G4 chip with leopard would be madness, Apple will definitely make 10.5 compatible imho. I have read however that the G3 may not be supported. I would stress that - like almost all pre release info on apple stuff - this is only a rumour and I hope it's not true, but you can kinda see the logic in it. _________________ mac mini coreduo 1.66ghz. 1.25gb 60gb HD
