IOSpirit today released the Remote Buddy 1.0 Preview, a Universal Binary application for Apple's Remote that allows Intel Macs to integrate with both Front Row and EyeTV 2 plus. The software also allows users to control other applications as well as the mouse and keyboard via the remote control. Remote Buddy offers "Behaviors" for iTunes, Keynote 3, PowerPoint, Photo Booth, QuickTime Player, EyeTV 2, DVD Player, VLC Media Player and Real Player. If there isn't a specific "Behavior" tailored to your favorite application, you can use the virtual keyboard and mouse to move the mouse cursor, drag and drop items, open context menus and make a selection, emulate cursor keys or replay strings you have previously entered. Mac mini HTPC enthusiasts may find that some of the keyboard and mouse features come in handy for controlling Safari or Firefox.
Remote Buddy 1.0 Preview is available for Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later as a Universal Binary at an introductory price of $12.90. IOSpirit also offers a 30-day trial version of Remote Buddy with full functionality.

Being able to control the mouse is nice, but it appears that you only have an X and Y Axis. You cannot move diagonally. The rest of the application seems to be a little redundant.

What do you mean redundant? (That you can script many of the functions yourself?)
I think this looks pretty sweet, I bet with practice you could get pretty sweet with the remote....my question is will there be (are there) upgraded remotes? more functions, diagonal scroll, etc? |

I'm not writing my own scripts. I just felt like some parts of the interface were unnecessary. That being said, the ability to switch between apps is really cool. It will be interesting to see where this thing goes.

Looks like Quicksilver for the Apple IR remote. Fantastic!
Certainly worth $10 for anyone using the iMM as a HTPC. Especially for the seemingly simple task of switching between and interfacing with VLC, EyeTV2, and FrontRow (i.e. iTunes & iPhoto).

I love Quicksilver! Can't wait to get my Intel mini and check out some of these apps. Have any of you guys tried out iRed Lite? How does it compare?

You still need to get off the sofa to put in DVDs. 
Any idea on how to bypass that? |

I love this program. It was definitely worth the $12 US dollars.
Since my Mini is plugged into my TV, I now don't need a mouse or even a keyboard if I don't want it. It great that he added the Filesystem option with the 2nd release!

i woud like to be able to do more with the remote true but i would rather run windows media center edition using boot camp and using the remote to controll the media center
this is a waist of time i wouldn't even purchase this because it is a preview edition meaning that even if you wanted to purchase this the full version is still a preview edition
so you can purchase a beta version for 20.00 or use the trial for 14 days for free
really stupid |

Just to Warn you guys - these are some issues that came up while I used the Remote Buddy program
- Display Sleep doesn't work anymore
- there's no way to open files on VLC. You have to load them first before you can use the remote - much like inserting a dvd.
- little minor bugs that affect the overall performance of the mac
just wanted to let you guys know my experience. I've already uninstalled it on all 3 of my macs - imac, mac mini and macbook . . .
