I know we're all waiting for Tiger but let's say they update the Mac mini soon there after. Other than the obvious 512MB Ram, new video card, faster and bigger hard drive, what should Apple do?

I don't really care whether they bundle more RAM or a bigger/faster hard drive (those can be upgraded). The number ONE thing is to upgrade the video chipset (and bump up the video ram).

I'll second xmen65. Video card and an audio in jack.

Firewire 800 would be nice, but not critical.

Jase: Since Apple dumped Firewire on the new iPods I'd say the chances for Firewire 800 are slim but It would be nice. Very Happy

My List:
1.67 G4
Video at least 64-128MB
Audio In
100GB 7200 RPM HD

I would sell my mini on eBay and get a new one if they had all four of these!

I'll third that! I think Apple made a major mistake by not giving the mini an audio in jack. They clearly had room for it back there!

it would be nice to have BTO options of a 7200rpm hard drive and better video and ram! if Apple can upgrade a 40gb hard drive to a 80gb hard drive, why not offer a faster one to those who are willing to pay....

i would not want to risk the warranty replacing the hard drive...

as for sound in, try the imic from Griffin - i use one on my Cube and it works fine [has usb connection] Cool

They should offer more BTO options! If a person is willing to pay and the technology is available why not? The thing is I'm not sure if Apple's BTO options are really like I hate to say it Dells. There are only like three to four true options for the mini Bluetooth, AE and Memory and Hard Drive if you buy the 1.25GHz one.

  • VESA compliant output levels (helloooo.. apple engineers... VESA is 700mV, not 530mV)
  • Better video (32mb ati 9200 is laugable)
  • 512mb ram minimum default config.
  • Mic in
  • Gigabit ethernet
  • Lose the internal speaker, modem, and wireless please.
  • 3.5" HD (2.5" is just too limiting and slow and expensive per gb)

More than likely the real reason some people have the dark/dim VGA problem and why Apple has not said more.
