Micronet Technology has introduced the miniMate, an external hard disk and port extender designed to enhance the capabilities of Apple's new Mac Mini by adding up to 400GB of fast storage, 4 USB ports, and 3 FireWire ports. Product Dimensions for the miniMate are 6.5 in x 6.5 in x 1.5 in matching the form and sleek aluminum and white glossy surfaces of the Mac Mini. "The Mac Mini's powerful G4 processor and the iLife creative applications make it perfect for all creative endeavors," said Alex Koyshman, MicroNet's director of Research and Development. "With additional storage space and ports for camcorders and other input and output devices, the Minimate extends the capabilities of Apple’s Mac Mini to match the most capable workstations." I've been waiting 2 months for this! I got the 160BG model. When I talked to sales the rep he said they were swamped.

| The MiniMate is really a great all in one solution. Most concepts had USB/Firewire hubs and external drives as seperate or stackable units but not this one. I hope the colors match up good and I'm not crazy about the logo on the front. I'll probably order one next paycheck! |

I'm glad to hear it's made out of a mixture of metal and plastic. The logo isn't that bad and you might be able to scratch it off if it isn't a sticker.

This is cool!  However i would still like to see at least one USB and one Firewire port on the front of a unit like this for easy access! |

Sure will! I'll try to take some pic's as well and post them. Hopefully I will have it by the end of next week...fingers crossed! What do you think about the price? A good USB Firewire hub is going to cost you around $40 and a 160GB drive between $70-$100. So you're already up to $110-$140 and that’s not including a case that will look mighty nice sitting under the mini. I really think $179 is a pretty fair price. Heck the Mini Shack thing cost like $100! Are you looking to get one?

From the FAQ on the site.
Question: I noticed the miniMate has USB and Firewire ports. Which cable should I use to connect to my computer?
Answer: Both! The miniMate offers hub functionality for both USB and FireWire. As long as a FireWire connection is present, the disk drive will mount as a FireWire device; otherwise, it will mount as a USB device!

If that's the case get why not get the 80GB model and save another $30. First we'll have to see how to crack one open...please no putty knife! lol |

| The MiniMate is by far the coolest Mac mini accessory out there, however, I'm going to wait a few months to see if Apple doesn't release something similar. You know Apple's quality will be better. I'd also like to see some better pictures of the MiniMate in the meantime. Does anyone know if the power supply is a brick or plug? |
