I bet Apple is one of the few companies who can charge $150 more for a COLOR and people will still lay down the cash.

(Upgrading the 2GHz white model to 80GB like the BlacBook is $50)

Actually, black is the standard color with Harleys... colors, including white, cost extra.

Charging extra for getting it in black. I'm sure Henry Ford is rolling over in his grave.

So I guess HD is also one of the few. I can't think of any other companies off the top of my head.

I ordered the 2.0GHz MacBook with a 100GB HD. My PowerBook was really on its last legs and I needed something for club meetings and school. I passed on the black MacBook because of its price, even though it looks super cool. I still plan on buying an Intel mini for my TV center once they bump up the speeds. Now, I need to get on eBay and try to sell some of my old gear.

It's too bad there isn't a $50 SuperDrive option for it like the 1.5 Mini.

I was leaning that way until I saw the 1.83GHz didn't have a SuperDrive option. That and the overpriced black case have me angry with Apple this morning. The funny thing is, they still ended up with my money. GD Steve Jobs! Laughing

Whats with Apple and their ram pricing? Are these sticks any different then the iMM's, that they're charging $500 xtra for 2x1gb?(different pinning?). Even the 1.83MBP 1x1gb=$200, but 2x1gb=$500, I don't get the math? Charging $100 xtra for the 2nd stick.

Their pricing of hard drive upgrades is almost as equally egregious. It's looking like they don't want you to buy one with more than 1GB of memory and 80GB of disk space, and pay $1,449 for that with a SuperDrive.

It also seems strange that the price scale for upgrading hard drives is different between the Mac mini and MacBook. After all, they both use the same 2.5" 5400RPM SATA drives.

Upgrading from 60GB

60GB Serial ATA drive
80GB Serial ATA drive [Add $50]

120GB Serial ATA drive [Add $250]

They might be special because of the SMS (sudden motion sensor) and they need to have a special mechanism, I don't know.

In any case it is still retarded that you have to pay an extra $150 to get it in black. And that whole thing about the keys being built into the casing, I wonder what they feel like and any future issues about them.

Well at least with the education discount you get a full $100 off the white $1299 and the black $1499 model.
