My white 2GHz MacBook should be here tomorrow (not sure if I'll be home to sign) or Monday. I ordered it straight from Apple with a 100GB hard drive. I'm going to upgrade the RAM to 2GB on my own. Are you thinking about buying one? _________________ 2.4GHz MacBook Pro/4GB/320GB HD

If I were to get one, I would definitely wait a bit get the low-end model through Amazon (no tax!) when they become available and then upgrade the ram and hdd myself.
Two of these.
One of these. _________________ -=iMav=-

why is the black 2.0GHz $200 more than the white 2.0GHz when I only see a difference in HDD? Also, I'll be trying to get a 2.0GHz with either 80GB or 100GB HDD and ACPP then upgrade RAM later. _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."

Apple charges more for black because they've determined (evidently correctly, from what I've read about early purchases) that people are willing to pay a premium for it. It's the free market system, and probably a pretty good way for Apple to manage inventory and demand as well.
Personally, I wouldn't pay the premium. But plenty of people will, and are.

I plan on applying for a job, anywhere in the same town as frecklefacecase so I can afford the MacBook, But now I'm torn, should I get a macbook, or buy a Mac Pro at a teacher discount? I will be doing a lot of video editing, sorry to hijack this thread, again... _________________ Mac Mini, 1.25 Ghz, 40Gb, 512, combo drive. Imac G4, 1 Ghz, 80Gb, 768, Super Drive.

| I will end up buying the low end... and boosting RAM to the max. The slight difference in processor speed and the Superdrive are not neccessary to me. But for now I will stick with my Powerbook and Mini so I can run Photoshop and Dreamweaver natively. I really hope Leopard comes out before Vista, and kicks it in the balls. So Apple can be like: why buy a windows machine when you can buy a mac and run leopard and vista on one computer! |

| I just bought the 2.0 GHZ model, plan to eventually upgrade the RAM. Got a free printer, came out to 1300 with tax + the teacher discount. I justified this model by saying that it is easy to upgrade ram, which I would've done with the 1.83 ghz, than it is to upgrade to a superdrive! |

I will either buy a Mac Mini with a nice screen or save up and buy a 2.0GHz MacBook using the educational discount. Now which HDD 80GB or 100GB? _________________ "You must control your future by taking command of your present, and fixing and learning from your past."
