So I've just a new mac mini and I'm having a couple of problems...

Firstly... I'm trying to extract a zip file, I've downloaded a couple of softwares which I thought would help, but to no avail.

Can anyone recommend a program or software that can extract zipped music files?

Second.... the more serious and complex problem...I can hear sounds using itunes and quicktime...but when watching a clip that I downloaded or a clip from sites like thatvideosite or youtube....i see the moving images but I can't hear the sound....I didn't have this problem when i first bought my mac mini...it only started yesterday.

I'm starting to regret the purchase of this mac mini...

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Stuffit works well for unzipping files.

Did you install any software or make any config changes since yesterday?

Just went to those sites myself to see if there was any problem with the format of the videos... I can see/hear them fine. I am wondering, like picaman, if you accidentally changed some configuration/property.

I'm not having problems with zip files, but I am having problems with some sites and sounds, Youtube being one. I don't think I did anything to change anything other than software update. I'd be interested if others are having anyproblems. I do notice that anything that streams with Windows media does not work on the Intel mini. XM online is one of those.

The required software has not been ported to Intel yet. You can, however, get Flip4Mac and run it in rosetta mode. I believe. Can anyone else confirm?

Flip4Mac doesn't run on intel Macs. I tried to install that before.

Did you Get Info on it and select "run with Rosetta" or whatever that setting is? It doesn't try by default, I think you have to manually select it for some reason.

I'm unable to install Flip4Mac as it won't install on Intel Macs. I'm not sure what happen, but I still get no sound viewing anything on YouTube.com. I will have to live without XM online since the Windows Media Player won't stream on the Intel Mac either. I hope there's a fix on the way.

Flip4Mac will likely be the option--Windows Media Player for Mac is no longer being developed.

Confused

Still having a problem with Flash. I get no sound from any Flash files. I installed the preview of the Universal version. It worked for a bit. When I tried it later, no sound. I tried reinstalling the PPC version and running Safari in Rosetta, still no go. Anyone else having similar problems. Tried the work around from Version Tracker, short of reinstalling Safari, but did try reinstalling Deer Park, (Firefox.)

I'm sorry. Sad I wish I could help. If you haven't customized your system too much, you might want to consider backing up your data, then reinstalling Mac OS X... start from scratch and follow the steps you did before and note everything you do in case it happens again.

I've reinstalled all plugins from the original install disk, extracted with Pacifist, still no sound. It's something I will live without until a fix comes along.

It's working now, reinstalled all original plugins once again and Flash now works. Leaving it be.

After reinstalling Windows Media Player and re-reinstalling it, I've finally been successful in getting XM online to work. One less issue.
