|
|
I've been browsing the last 15-20 minutes about RAM upgrades. I plan on making a purchase within the next week to upgrade my mini to 1GB. I was wondering if we could get some people to post testimonials of upgrades. They seem to be scattered about and I was hoping to have them a bit organized in one thread, not only for my use but also for other new comers looking to upgrade.
So how about it. I think it would be helpful to post sucess and failure stories to help users avoid and purchase the correct RAM. How about a template:
Make:
Model:
Speed: (i.e. PC3200 or 400MHz)
Size:
Cost:
Store/Website:
Experience:
Or anything else you find useful. |

Kingston ValueRAM 512mb 184 pin DDR SDRAM Unbuffered DDR 333 (PC 2700) memory from NewEgg is what I used in my mini. Works fine. Paid $75 in February 2005. _________________ Mac mini powered up on 2-11-2005 |

I just bought a Mini 1.25GHz and immediately popped it open.
I threw in a Centon PC2700 333MHz 512MB module which worked great. I even had a Thermaltake heat spreader on it, and it fit (that I was concerned about).
I got the module for $39 from CompUSA after rebates.
Right now TigerDirect has ULTRA 512MB PC3200 400MHz DDR RAM for $29.99 after rebate. This stuff works great at 400MHz for my gaming PC, so it will be good in the Mini.
The FSB is only 167 MHz, so it really won't take advantage of a 400MHz memory module.
And I have seen Newegg.com having 1GB PC3200 DDR for $100, whihc is pretty darn good as well.
Keep an eye on Techbargains.com. |

| I got the PQI from newegg as well. Just poke around on newegg. There is a $80 stick that quite a few mini owners have left positive comments about on the newegg reviews. It absolutely doesn't make sense to spend $50 on 512mb when 1G sticks can be had for $80. |

Ditto for me to. Threw it in one of my mini's before I even powered it up for the first time. Have yet to have any issues with it. _________________ -=iMav=-

What ? You didn't buy the PQI! JK I swear PQI is getting more free press on the Mac mini forums than they've ever had! |
