I am looking at investing in a new 2.0GHz MacBook Pro. This will be a replacement for my Sony Vaio TR2MP and also my first Mac system. The machine will be used for some web development, graphics work, photo library and iTunes as well as video editing and DVD mastering.

So in other words it is going to get pretty hammered.

My question is this, I can get the new system delivered in 3 days from Apple or I can wait 4 weeks and pay an extra £70 to get a 7200rpm HD instead of the 5400. I have read the previous post related to powerbook where some suggested it wasn't worth it. However, £70 is not a huge jump when you're paying a couple of grand for a laptop. What's more irritating is the excruciating 3-4 weeks wait as opposed 3 days.

What's your advice...?

If you got the money is a huge factor, but it wouldn't be the most crucial upgrade of all. It will be noticed if you have a good amount of RAM, but if your RAM isn't great you won't notice it, since the MacBook Pro has 1GB it will be a rather noticable improvement in CPU crazy programs (PhotoShop in Rosetta just to throw it out there).

The new MacBook Pro 17 inch has just been released. Go to the apple store website now and you will see that they do offer a 100 GB HDD 7200 RPM.

But it will cost you extras.
