It may be called a Cube if someone like Sonnet comes out with an Intel processor, except that we Cubers still have a 100 mhz bus to contend with. The Cube and the Mini have many things in common (silence, small form factor), and ideally, I would want a Mac with the best features of both. From the mini - faster bus, RAM, processor, easy-access ports; from the Cube - upgradability, more RAM slots, space for a 3.5" hard drive; from both - beautiful design, small footprint. _________________ Mini 1: 2.3 ghz Core i5; 8 gb RAM, Corsair 240gb SSD, 500 gb Seagate XT
Mini 2: 2.26 ghz Core 2 duo, 8 gb RAM, 500 gb Seagate
Also a Cube, 13" MacBook Air, 20" 2.66 ghz iMac & 11.6" Acer 1810TZ running Ubuntu, Mint & openSuse |

Congrats! You sound like a kid on Christmas day...
Hey, you definitely need to give us a report of this little beast as soon as you get it up and running. I know we are all dying to get a sense as to how fast the new Mini's are.. _________________ Vote for me, and your wildest dreams will come true.. - Pedro Sanchez, "Napoleon Dynamite" |

That might be a little hard to do since I'm a new Mac user, but I'll try my best. Other than those XBench scores what would be helpful to other people? |

Well, in that case you can wait forever. I see it like this: I use OSX on my 1.5 mini until I reasonally know what to expect from it which can take a few years (used Windows and Linux for quite some years now) and I might buy a faster Apple (whatever kind) in the future, this might be a used G5 too.. Maybe my ideally Mac and price comes along later. I also ordered a KVM switch as there are still some things I like to do with Windows and Linux. (The latter for trying out some new Linux distro's for instance, these don't quit progressing either)... _________________ ___________________Jim©

As a recent switcher, it would be great to hear your comparison from Windows to OS X. Of course it will take you some time to get used to the OS, but as you will see it is a pretty wasy transition.. _________________ Vote for me, and your wildest dreams will come true.. - Pedro Sanchez, "Napoleon Dynamite" |

Actually I think your opinion would be extremely valuable, as it will be relatively unclouded by the Reality Distortion Field™.

I just ran an Xbench test on a standard 1.66GHz Mac mini.

Feels pretty fast out of the box. Boot times are around 30 seconds. I should have a full review on the site next week. _________________ Brian

That's not really the question I was asking. _________________ -=iMav=-

Sorry, I don't have any Mac software. I am a complete newbie. I doubt this helps, but I get 53 fps with the iTunes visualizer in full screen mode. Display is at 1280 x 1024. My biggest concern is the poor Airport reception. It seems like it is dropping out. |
