Mac mini Portable Project
Thursday February 9, 2006
Peter Green has posted pictures and information about his Mac mini portable project, otherwise known as the "MMP" on his website. Before you go and say, "Why didn't he just buy a iBook or PowerBook?" Give this guy some credit for the concept. There are definitely some interesting modifications going on here. First off, he built a custom enclosure for his 1.25GHz Mac mini that includes an 8" TFT LCD and touchpad. The enclosure itself measures 8.5" x 6.5", and is made out of 3mm aluminum sheeting.
The thing we found most interesting about the "MMP" was how it gets its power from a single 14.8V Lithium-Ion battery. Make sure you check out the rest of Peter's pictures in the "Designing the Case" and "First Tests" sections on his website. the rest of Peter's pictures in the "First Tests" section on his website.

I'll give the guy props for the mod, but I would have bought a 12" iBook and called it a day. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

It looks like a portable DVD player. I'm sure it has it uses. Plus he must of had time on his hands.
I agree though, iBook and call it a day.
Noticed all those vertical lines in his PowerBook's screen also. _________________

Wow, those look bad. That could be why he's staying away from Apple laptops. _________________ 1.25GHz Mac Mini / 1.8GHz iMac G5 / 2.0GHz C2D Mac mini (2009)

why didnt he just buy a ibook, powerbook or macbook?
it looks like crap, what a waste of time and money. if he wants to make computers; he should make somthing practable. who wants to turn theyre mac mini into that? _________________ Core Solo MacMini owner.

I think you guys are missing the point. If he wanted an iBook, I'm sure that's what he would have done. The point was to do it to do something different. Think different... right? lol
Props on getting it done. _________________ Mini 1.83 C2D 2GB/80GB/Combo, 10.5

Agreed. I'm sure there is some personal satisfaction in putting together a project like this and getting it to work. Some people just like to tinker around. |

| Pretty cool. I think it would have looked better with a silver LCD. What I really want to know is how much running time he is getting with the batteries? |

Good job and props to the man getting it done for the geek factor.
But how lame. It's ugly, not really portable, and the screen is only 8"? I do believe that's what a laptop is for. |
