I actually got a free Mac SE from work back in 1999...Even bought an ethernet card for it off of Ebay. However, I never really touched it and eventually threw it in a dumpster.
So, really, my first Mac is a tie between two of the three Mac Mini's I ordered in early 2005. (my kids' two 1.25GHz Mini's arrived before my 1.42GHz Mini) This was followed shortly by a 17" G5 iMac (pre-iSight) for my wife. Late 2005 I sold my 1.42Ghz Mini and replaced it with a 12" iBook. And now, I am awaiting delivery of a 20" iMac DC.
I am not your "typical" switcher. I am a UNIX geek from way back. Before I got my kids Mini's, they had PC's running Linux. My wife was the sole nasty user. I had been interested in Mac ever since the BSD-based OS X came out, but was always put off by the price of Apple hardware. The release of the Mini was the justification I needed to jump in with both feet and transition the entire family. _________________ -=iMav=-

512K Fat Mac.
Don't ask me what the first computer I had was. I won't answer.

LCIII
Still have it. Bought it in 1993 for University, and used it regularly for 5 years. It was the best one I ever had. Never had a problem with it.
If I had a PDS ethernet card for it, I'd probably still use it for email. _________________ Mini 1.83 C2D 2GB/80GB/Combo, 10.5

The first Mac I used was a borrowed Mac LC, with a 33K modem
Then I bought a PM 6500/250 with 128mg RAM and a 4gb HD
Then I salvaged a LC 520 AIO with a Personal Laser Printer,
Was given a Centris 660AV,
Got from a garage sale a Performa 405,
Was given a PM 6115CD, PowerBase 240, and a PM WGS 7350 that I upgraded to a G3,400 w/ 1gb Ram
Bought a PM Beige Mini Tower G3 and upgraded it to a G4-500 with 768mg RAM. CD-RW and a 64mg Radeon 7000 Graphics card
PowerBook Duo 2300c

I played around with the original Macintosh when I was a kid. And went through junior high and high school, programming on Apple II's.
The first Mac I owned was a Performa 5200. (I think that was around 1997). I sold computers (for 5 years) at a large retail store (mainly PC's), but we carried Mac's as well. I wanted to learn a bit about Macs, so I bought a used 5200 that was used in the Kids World section of the retail store to entertain the kids, while their parents bought PC's.
Even back then I knew there was something different about Macs. The kids played on them all day long and they always seemed to work. We never had to restore them to keep them running.
I only owned the 5200 for 1 month. I wanted to learn the Mac OS. and see what it was all about. (It didn't take long, because it was so simple). I sold it 1 month later for $1 more than I paid for it.
The Performa 5200 was dated (old) when I bought it and like a fool I stuck with PC's up until summer 2005. Now I fix PC's (for work) but use my Mac mini at home.
It's nice to relax once the day is done. |

| First Mac I used was a Plus. My dad bought it new (it was about $2,400 with an ImageWiter) as our first family computer back in 1986, and we used it as such all the way to about 1992. The first Mac I actually purchased myself was a suped-up PowerMac 7500, which I got used for $500 back in 1998. |

My 1st Mac was a Titanium Powerbook G4 667. I was able to afford it through a bursary from college so I was VERY lucky.
I still use it in university, but man this is getting long in the tooth... _________________ 20" iMac G5 2.0 |
