Outch, that hurts! The Quadra 610 was discontinued already May 1994. I had purchased my Quadra 700 (same 25 MHz! 6840) in 1991. Spending twice the $$$$. However, I was lucky enough to sell it @ 1/2 the price I purchased it in 1995 after upgrading it to incredible 20 MB of RAM.

I was a kid when the Q610 was purchased. The PM6100 was already out and a bit more money than the Q610, and a whole lot more performance. My parents went for the Q610 because a computer 'expert' told them that it would take years for applications to be written as PPC native code, when it actually took about six months for most stuff (don't ever trust someone who labels themselves as an expert).

Overall it wasn't a horrible machine by any stretch. It was reliable, and other than being outdated quickly, it did everything we needed it to do for almost 4 years.

My first Mac was a 512k back in 1980-something. My grandfather upgraded to a SE and it was a hand-down, similar thing with the SE

198x - Macintosh 512k
1991 - Macintosh SE, possibly with a 4Mb HDD.
1994 - Power Macintosh 6100/60

The first mac I owned was a PowerMac 8500

2000 - PowerMac 8500
2003 - Dark Side Wintel box (required by university paper I was taking)
2007 - Mac Mini C2D 2Ghz

Now happily with my Mini.

Smile

I've had the pleasure of owning at least one Mac from most of the various generations. I had a Lisa before that. My own Mac history:

February 1984 - the original Mac; had it upgraded to a "Fat" Mac in the spring of 1985.

1986 (forget the month) bought the Mac Plus; donated the original to the LSU Chemistry Dept.

1988 (Fall) SE-30; donated the Mac Plus to the LSU Chemistry Dept.

1990 - Purchased the 68030 laptop (forget what it was called).

1992 - Quadra 650

1994 - PowerMac 6500

1995 - PowerMac 9500

1999 - G3 iMac DVD (in use until Fall 2007 when the power supply pooped out)

2001 - Flat Panel G4 iMac (now the wife's computer for email)

2005 - G4 Mini (going up on ebay)

2007 November - Aluminum C2D iMac to replace the dead G3

2008 - C2D Mini from the notorious MrStitch Used as a music server.

Next in line will be the MacBook to replace the new Mini as the music server. The new Mini will replace the wife's Flat Panel iMac.

1c.

Simply known as the Mac Portable, however it was called the lugable because of it's weight.

I had an SE SuperDrive, (not to be confused with today's SD,) an LC, LClll, 2 PowerPC 601s, a beige G3 Tower, a Sawtooth G4, a Quicksilver G4, 3 different G3 iMacs. I still have the SE and the Sawtooth G4.

Not THAT one, Bobaloo, although I knew a guy who had the one you mentioned. There were two models (both dark grey) that came out in 1990 (or was it 1991?) That were normally sized and weighed less than 10 pounds.

That's it, although I had the 170 version, which had a slightly larger screen IIRC. I remember doing all the upgrades to it that I could... bigger HD, RAM.

Wow! I had forgotten how much this thing set me back.

Ok, those came out in '91, the lugable was in '89. That's going back a bit. Our first Mac experience began when my wife was working for Time/Life and she had an SE there, that is when the switch began for us.
