Hi all. Got a mac mini few days ago. 1.4ghz,512mb,superdrive,80gig.
I realised now i should have got the internal wireless but its too late now. I got a quote of £230 to get them installed!
Anyway, i bought a d-link dwl-g122 usb wifi adapter and it wasnt compatible. So i downloaded a chipset driver and it seems to work by tricking the mac into thinking it is an ethernet connection. I get a green light in the network status and it says it is connected to the internet. But then safari doesnt find the server and the access point isnt pingable
The access point is wintel based amd has an ip of 192.168.0.1 and subnet mask of 255.255.255.0
The mac is set to 192.168.0.5, same submask and router (or gateway) set to 192.168.0.1
The application tricking the mac has the right wep key and says it is connected, but no internet or shared files.
Dont know what to do now and this is all that is holding me back from ditching my pcs! |

I thought there were very, very few wireless adapters that worked with *nix. I'd get the approved version.

Got the ralink drivers. As you can see it does show up and in the other system prefs it shows up as a wireless adapter.

Page 20-23, might give you some extra help. It will work but I've heard its really a buggy one.

| I read the pdf manual posted above and the utility it shows for the mac on pages 20-23 is nothing like what i have. I did install the software for the 11mbps version but it doesnt detect anything. So where did that software come from? |

Great question, they don't even have drivers on the au site. I can't figure out why the mini recognizes the adapter and you're getting a signal but it wont work? The only thing else I would suggest is to use DHCP instead of manually giving it an IP address. I was going to pickup an adapter but after reading more about them I've decided to pickup an AE card and mezzanine board. Sorry I wasn't much help!

To be fair i think this adapter is the wrong one. If i was better at networking im sure it would work. But i should have bought a d-link dwl-122 ,not a dwl-g122
Of course i only realised this after i paid £21 on ebay. I plan to get the other one and see since the other model is apparently much easier and the software works
As for airport being a newb i dont know what i would need. Any advice on that front? +Mezzanine boards can be bought from the us on the cheap at www.mac-pro.com for $47.77 |

Yea you can get drivers for that one! You could probably go the AE, Mezzanine board route for a little over $100 and install it yourself. It really doesn't look that hard...I take it you've opened PC before?

There are some ok Linux drivers out there.

Got a link to the airport board i would need?
+While im at it how about the bluetooth.
I want the ones i can fit internally. Im in the uk so i would import and probably get apple to do it for £75! |
