Has anyone tried to do some music recording with their mini?

I read that with a firewire module, a 5200 rpm HD (like in the mini, was I told) could handle about 8 tracks. Is it true?

5200 RPM drives are only in some of the 40gb models.

And why would speed of the hard drive determine how many tracks you could record?

I think you're confusing things. The hard drive speed has nothing to do with how many tracks you can record like Bubba points out. In GB2 you can record up to 8 live tracks and one software track plus you can lock down tracks to free up systems resource in GB2 and record more tracks. I just read the review for GB2 in Macworld in the April 2005 issue and it talks about this. Wink

You're probably right, I am confusing things!

I do not know much about those things. I thought that the HD speed had an influence on how many tracks could be played while you are recording.

So if GB2 does it all without problem... I can't wait for my mini much longer!!! Very Happy

I ordered a 1,42 GHz with 512 Ram... Hope it will be enough.

I bought a mini mainly because I was impressed by OS X, and I am sick of Windows always crashing, viruses, spywares...

I was planning to do some recording, but I didn't even know that GB was a recording software! It is like a bonus!!! Very Happy I guess it is a basic thing, not quite like Pro Tools, but it should fit my needs. Considering what I read on Apple.com, it seems really good.

Glad to hear we have another switcher! Garageband is real fun but like I said before you need to max out the memory. You'll also need an audio in device like the iMic if you want to record your own tracks.

So you are saying that I should change my order for 1 Gb ram...

A bit expensive for me...

I read that many people changed their ram by themselves. Guess I could do that... but changing my order means waiting another month for my mini! Sad

What a dilemma!!!

No....don't change your order just do it yourself! Apple Ram is overpriced to begin with and you can pick up 1GB now for under 150. How much memory did you get? Have you ever installed memory before?

Nope, nerver changed memory before.

I ordered 512 Mb... so the best move would be to change it to 256 and buy 1 Gb as you say. That means waiting a few weeks more.

Where do they sell it that cheap? Hope they deliver in Canada.
