|
|
I just started using a Mini last week and I got a Plextor ConvertX at the same time. I love the whole Mac experience so far (switching from PC) and I really like the Plextor (and the Eye TV software) too.
My question is about the drive I use for the recordings. Currently it's an external firewire drive. But I plan on copying the internal Mini drive to that one and using it as my startup drive. I also have an external USB2 drive.
Should I keep using the external firewire drive for my PVR storage even if it becomes the startup drive ? Or should I use the USB2 drive for recording ? (would it be significantly slower than the firewire drive?)
The firewire drive is a Seagate 200G in an AMS Venus enclosure. The USB2 is a LaCie 250G Porsche (Seagate).
Also (side comment) I find that I can indeed use my setup for both "media center" apps / TV and other apps. My favorite browser (Opera) can default all windows to a higher magnification and I really like the OSX built-in screen magnifier. Others may disagree but I find it very easy to use and switch on and off. |

| I did some more research and it looks like it will be fine to use USB2 for movie storage. I just need to erase it first and format it as HFS+ (I bought it for my Win setup so it was formatted by a PC). |

| I also have the plextor and eye tv. It has worked great. Have used a pioneer firewire DVD burner to burn and have watched on our big screen. |
