Is it with the 500 Hd and 2.3? You can upgrade to a SSD which helps a lot.

I own this model and when I called Apple they told me it can only take 8 gigs of ram.If you increase it with 8 gigs more it is more beneficial for you.

It depends on whether you have enough apps open at once to need that much memory. The SSD is, IMO, the upgrade that will show the most performance benefit. But increasing your RAM does help, since the Mac has to swap data out to disk less often.

Apple will tell you 8gb is the max memory, but it will take and use 16gb.
