In Finder menu bar, View > Show view options > Arrange by… Snap to Grid will pack all the desktop icons along grid lines on the right side of the screen, in alpha order.

I don't want that, so I chose Arrange by… None, which allows me to park my icons where I please. Normally, the icons should stay there after each startup. They usually do, but in my Intel Mac mini running Snow leopard, they sometimes snap to grid on their own at boot time. This happened again this morning.

I already reported this in this forum but it only produced a deafening silence. Surely there must be other users who experienced the same faulty behavior, and perhaps discovered the cure?

I have already tried repairing permissions. That didn't work.
What puzzles me is that this sort of thing does not seem to happen to anybody except me. Or they just keep quiet about it...

Its happened to me once or twice and
somehow the Finder Preferences change
them selves so I change them back and
it has always stuck.......till the next time.
I haven't had it permanently malfunction
like you.

Maybe it is just.........you! I better not talk
with you......it might rub off!
