Apple Intros New 16GB iPod touch

Apple today unveiled a new 16GB iPod touch model on their online store. This model features a 4-inch Retina display, dual-core A5 processor, and front-facing FaceTime HD camera. It does not include the 5-megapixel rear-facing iSight camera or "loop" wrist strap like found on other 5th-generation models though. The new 16GB iPod touch is available now for $229.

My niece is looking to buy an iPod touch, but I can't imagine her going with this one without a camera. Beyond games, I think that's one of the things kids really like about the iPod touch. They use them for sharing pictures with their friends through iMessage.

This is really a strange product for Apple to be coming out with at this time. Why not just release a 16GB designed like the 32GB and 64GB models? Plus the pricing makes no sense. There is a $100 dollars difference in price between the 32GB and 64GB models. Now there is a $70 difference in price between this model and the 32GB model sans a camera. No wonder people are starting to say there is something wrong with Apple these days. They can't even get things with the iPod touch right.

I'm also guessing the 4th-generation iPod touch is dead to iOS 7 since it was
taken out of the line for this model.

Nice to see a more affordable option. Strange that they took away the camera. I think that is a great feature on a touch.
The lower priced models appeal to parent buying them for kids. What kid wouldn't want an awesome camera.

It makes no sense to buy one without a camera. Even more so when people like B&H and Amazon are selling the regular 32GB model for $275 with free shipping and no tax.

If I were buying a device for my child in this price range, it would be an iPad mini from Walmart. They are currently selling the 16GB model for $299. In fact, we are waiting for an iPad mini with a Retina display to do so. It's going to be our next device from the fruiting company.
