Hi,

I have a late 2012 Mac Mini hooked up to my LG TV via HDMI. At the moment the audio just comes from a TV speakers. I would like better sound, preferably 5.1.

I don't want to buy an AV receiver as (they are expensive, and) I only have the TV and mac mini - (no bluRay, xbox). I watch everything off the mac - no broadcasted material at all. I also use it as my home music player.

Does anyone know how I can get my 5.1 audio without an AV receiver? Some kind of splitter or something?

I used to use JBL creatures. They were great for music, but not so good for dialogue as they lacked the centre speaker. I know logitech have computer speakers that fake 5.1. But I have a HDMI port which carries 5.1 and I would like to hear that.

Thank you,

Grant

Question for you!!!

Do you want it to come from the tv as well as 5.1 or do you just want 5.1..

you can simulate 5.1 with a usb 5.1 surround sound card amazon sells one this is what i use from them because it was cheap and mac compatible.

http://www.amazon.com/HDE-Channel-External-Sound-Adapter/dp/B0027EMHM6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1367777054&sr=8-3&keywords=usb+sound+card

these work well with any external sound speakers because they emulate 7.1 surround sound and do it quite well the only thing you would need is a nice set of speakers now if you want to go budget friendly you can get logitech speakers that are powered from target stores and even other sources this is what i use on one of my macs the other i use is the angry bird speaker system dont laugh this suckers got power bass and sounds awesome here is the link for that.

i love this speaker its got bass and sounds great and even better fits on any shelve
