Apple Now Offering iMacs with VESA Mount Adapters
Thursday, March 14, 2013
Posted by: Staff

Apple today started offering 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMacs with built-in VESA mount adapters. According to the company, this $40 option allows users to mount their iMac with a VESA-compatible wall mount, desk mount, or articulating arm. It should also be noted that one of these mounts is required, as this configuration doesn't include the standard base stand.

Reminds me of my 2005 G5 iMac which came with vesa mounts.
One has to wonder why they ever dropped the system.

I'm all for having options, but I think the design should allow for the use of the regular stand or vesa mounts. You simply detach the stand and away you go. So then if things change down the road, you can always switch back to the regular stand. I mean, that's basically the industry standard. Why should Apple be any different?

Perhaps a 3rd party will come up with a VESA stand for the iMac. Height adjustable, built in hub etc.

Just like it was with my 2005 G5 iMac.
