|
|
Hello all, I just bought a new superdrive for my 2011 macmini and all it does is take the disc in for about 5 seconds then ejects it. I checked "about this mac" and it shows that it's recognized.
I'm not sure if this means anything but I also installed a Samsung pro SSD and used the original hard drive for all my movies using that kit from OWC. I don't have a clue on what to try next to fix this problem...Please HELP!!! |

The Apple external SuperDrives work with all modern Apple computers that did not originally have an internal SuperDrive ie. Mac mini, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro with Retina Display, Late 2012 iMacs.
Try a few more disks. It may not like one particular disk or brand of disk.
You may also have a defective drive.
Have you used the SuperDrive on the mini in the past successfully? |

Other brands of drives will work with all all Apple computers. It's simply a case of Apple building restrictions into the SuperDrives' firmware which restricts it to only working with Apple Computers that do not have SuperDrives built in.
The reason for this is... if your internal SuperDrive fails, Apple wants you to pay for replacement parts instead of just buying their external SuperDrive as an option.
It sucks, but it's true. It's also a total joke, because some people simply want to do a direct copy from disk to disk without the need to make a disk image on the hard drive and switch disks during the process. |
